Please enjoy this video featuring the use of tractors as obstacles at the WRC Rally Finland for 2016 from just a couple of weeks back.
They made the drivers

like it was Gymkana. Keep in mind the mass and raw density that a
tractor
imposes if your brakes fail vs. hitting a tire barrier or some plastic safety barricade, all driving capability aside.
Also feel free to listen to and comment on our thoughts in the latest episode of the Formula Freak podcast - jump to the 46:30 mark if you’re not in to all that F1 jazz, where we talk tractors.

It’s not as if that kind of thing killed an F1 driver...

Yeah, WRC should’ve had a stern conversation with organizers about this. It’s falling into the “gross negligence” category for me.

Wow,
Looks like he cut the truck out of the original photo on his
facebook

Look at how the A-pillar was only saved by the roll cage. Not a good sight. This is my first time seeing this. The door-skin buckle is also pretty awful.

Yeah, it was a serious hit. If recce cars weren’t caged I can’t imagine how bad this may have turned out

In their defense, if you overcook the entry you’ll most likely end up in the crash barrier on the left, and not under a tractor. That second tractor might pose more of a risk, however, if you bounce off the barrier or lose control coming around.
But I agree they should have erred on the side of safety.

True, though this being rally there’s the chance a car’s coming into that chicane with a flat or damaged suspension/steering, in which case all bets are off as to which way the car will go.
Also, I should mention that this comes right after a poorly placed/designed chicane at the last round damaged a number of cars, forcing at least one retirement
